September Makes Every Loose End Louder

September has a way of making every loose end louder.
I feel it every year.
Summer has its own kind of chaos, but it also has a little more flexibility.
The schedule is weird. The kids are home. Work blocks move around. Some things get done in the margins. Some things get pushed to later. And if you’re anything like me, summer also brings ideas.
Not small ideas either…
The kind that show up while you’re making lunch, driving kids somewhere, sitting outside for five minutes, or finally getting a quiet moment to think.
A new offer idea.
A better client workflow.
A content series.
A way to clean up your backend.
A project that would make the business feel lighter if you could actually build it.
And I love those ideas. I really do.
But summer is NOT the season where I let every good idea turn into a new project…
In the summer, I keep my focus simple. I use my Hot List: the top 3 business tasks and the top 3 home tasks that actually need my attention that day. That rhythm helps me protect the season I’m in instead of constantly adding more to it. So when a good idea shows up, I don’t ignore it.
I park it.
The idea parking lot gives those ideas a place to live until I have the capacity to come back to them.
And honestly, that’s part of what makes the fall feel so exciting!

September becomes the moment where I can look back at what I parked, sort through what still feels aligned, and decide what’s actually worth building next. But that only works if the backend of the business is ready to hold the regular work.
Because if September arrives and I’m still using my brain as the whole operating system, I don’t get to spend my energy sorting through those parked ideas and acting on one of them. I have to spend it trying to remember what was already supposed to happen.
But here’s where August matters.
By August, school schedules are about to come back in full force. The rhythm is changing again. And once September hits, there is not as much runway as we like to pretend there is.
You really get September and maybe half of October before the holiday season starts pulling at everyone’s attention. School events start stacking up. Family schedules shift. Client timelines get tighter. End-of-year planning sneaks in. The holidays start showing up in everyone’s calendar before you’re emotionally ready for them.
So if you have ideas sitting in your parking lot from summer, August is not the time to just “wait and see.”
August is the time to make sure your business can actually hold what is already happening.
Because you can’t build the new idea if your brain is still carrying the whole operating system.

What is an Automated Brain?
And that’s where the Automated Brain comes in.
An Automated Brain is the backend system that helps your business stop depending on your memory, energy, and constant availability to keep moving.
It’s the place where the work lives.
The tasks. The recurring rhythms. The follow-ups. The reminders. The process notes. The next steps. The things you keep meaning to write down but keep trying to remember instead.
And listen, I know “system” can sound like a big, fancy, overwhelming word, but most of the time, the first system you need is not complicated. It’s just the one that helps you sit down and know what matters today.
That’s it.
The real problem isn’t always that you have too much to do. Most of the time, it’s that every time you sit down to work, you have to mentally rebuild the plan before you can even start.
What was I doing?
What did I promise?
What is due soon?
What am I waiting on?
What did I say I would come back to later?
What idea did I park that actually needs attention now?
That kind of mental sorting will drain your best energy before the work even begins.
And if you’re trying to enter September with a new idea, a cleaner workflow, or a stronger business rhythm, your brain cannot be the only place the business is organized.
That’s why I think August is one of the most important months to build a backend operating system. That’s exactly what a System Sprint is for.
You bring the messy backend piece that keeps costing you time, energy, or clarity.
We talk through what is actually happening.
Then we build the structure around it.
One focused system your business can actually use before September gets loud.
Because September is coming, and I want you to have the capacity to build the ideas that actually matter.
